Boulder Dushanbe Teahouse

The next stop on my Colorado adventure was to see my cousin Polly who lives in Lafayette, near Boulder. My aunt happened to overlap my trip by a few hours, so the three of us headed to The Boulder Dushanbe Teahouse for lunch. What a treat! The place is amazing!

Boulder is the sister city to Dushanbe, Tajikistan and the mayor of Dushanbe announced in 1987 that they were going to present Boulder with a Teahouse to celebrate their "sister city ties."
More than 40 artisans in several cities in Tajikistan created this beautiful work of art.

The hand-carved and hand-painted ceilings, the hand made tables, stools, and columns ... everything is incredible! It has the most beautiful feeling inside. I swear, you can feel the love that was poured into it.

The exterior ceramic panels are just gorgeous!

That is my Aunt Penny, in white, sitting at our table. My cousin, meanwhile was trying to get one of the delicious recipes out of the chef!

It's not what you look at that matters,
it's what you see.
~Henry David Thoreau

Below, the Fountain of the Seven Beauties by artist Ivan Milosovich, based on a 12th Century Poem of Nizami Ganjavi.

From one of the tables ...

and a beautiful hand-painted bench ...

O.K., if you ever make it there ... this is a portion of the menu. Order the one in the middle. My aunt did and my cousin and I had our forks in her food. It was completely unique and out of this world delicious!

Next time I go see my cousin, I am definitely returning to this magical place. What a treat! I am trying to think of how I can possible paint those fabulous designs on my ceiling!

Thanks for sharing. It's hard to believe that that teahouse is in Boulder. It looks like somewhere totally different.
