When the uniqueness of a place
sings to us like a melody,
then we will know,
at last,
what it means to be home.
~Paul Gruchow
I can't seem to resist doing pastel paintings of places I love, especially Italy.
When I am working on the pastel, I feel connected to the place, as if there is a dialog between myself and the far away place I miss so much.
I am expressing my love for it, and somehow it answers back ...
I will always be here ...

If you haven't seen it already, here is my slideshow (with beautiful music, I can't take credit for!) from my first trip to Assisi.

Your artwork is so beautiful. Have you heard of Italian artist Dario Campanile? He is a dear friend of ours.

Lucinda, I loved that slideshow. I saw St. Francis' cloak and rope belt in a Florence museum. I love that he loved animals. If my memory serves me, I believe I read he liked crows the most.
Lovely place to be Lucinda.
warm greetings and a nice sunday.

I love that beautiful pastel drawing, a delight to contemplate the delicious combination of colors you used to do. The slide show is delightful.
I really enjoyed the slide show...I've never been there, so it was a special treat. I have a statue of St. Francis in my dove aviary. Also I understand how profound it is to paint a beloved location...your pastel is so luminous!
