Borghetto Flaminio Flea Market

I should have been taking more pictures to show you all the different treasures but I got a little distracted at the silk scarf table!!! I didn't see a lot of big antiques but smaller items including an incredible array of old watches, jewelry, clothing, linens, hats, beautiful handbags, some pottery, etchings and so on. It's open from 10am until 7pm and if we didn't have reservations at my all time favorite place to see art in Rome, the Galleria Borghese, my Mom and I may have gotten ourselves into a world of trouble!

For my birthday (which is not until December, mind you!) I got an old strand of beautiful coral with a beautiful antique clasp and for Christmas ;) I got two lovely Italian silk scarves. My more scored two scarves as well, one of which is a Gianfranco Ferre' and is so soft and light you almost can't feel it! We also found beautiful gifts and an antique white blouse in cotton voile with white lace trim for her.

It's pretty easy to find. Head north through the gates at Piazza del Popolo, cross Piazzale Flaminio and towards your right you will see Via Flaminia (which at the moment is having major road work!) Head North on Via Flaminia 5 or 6 blocks to Piazza della Marina 32. You might want to take a cab because you'll need to save your energy to shop.

Hungry after? Osteria Gastone. Via Flaminia, 64/65. Sit upstairs. I am not sure of their hours on Sunday but a great local place where I had some amazing zucchini flowers, ravioli stuffed with buffalo mozzarella (shown on my first Rome post), and this very cool dish of potato and eggplant. We only saw locals because of the neighborhood. My mouth is watering at the thought.

Ciao!
