baubles bangles and beads ...

My sister Penny is an artist and she makes some seriously gorgeous jewelry. I wrote about it in a blog post some time ago but I figure now is the time to show off her new stuff. (Being the holidays and everything!)

These beautiful pieces made from pure silver clay, were fired in the little kiln in her studio at home in Ojai. She uses both her own drawings or as in the case of these pieces, Afghan jewelry dies. She found the dies many years ago on a trip she and I took to see our parents who were living in Pakistan at the time.

They are so beautiful and unique and it is pretty rare to find silver jewelry that has that unique ethnic quality but that is also still very refined. They are really exquisite! I am so proud of her.

Don't these look so perfect for Christmas?

Penny gives a portion of the profits from her sales to The Central Asia Institute which is Greg Mortenson's charity. He is the one who wrote "Three Cups of Tea" and builds all the girls schools in Pakistan and Afghanistan. What he does is so amazing and if you haven't read the book, it would be a beautiful Christmas gift to yourself. It's incredibly inspiring what one person can do in what seems to be impossible circumstances! We may know it intellectually but it's important to remind ourselves.

Penny has a beautiful Blog and a wonderful Etsy site if you want to check them out!

Well, I am off to teach some art then study for my Italian final! OH, by the way I did the final oral exam and it was hilarious. We were broken up in to groups of 3 or 4 of our classmates and Flavio asked every group different questions. I ended up with two other single women we ended up talking about several things including what we wanted in a man - in Italian! "Intellegente!" " Divertente!" "Simpatico!" "Gentile!"
But of course, who wouldn't want a smart, funny, likable and kind man? Unless of course you want a woman. ;)

Have a beautiful weekend!!!
Blessings and light!
