Friends in the Desert

Yesterday I got back from a crazy, fun, moving and meaningful weekend with my girlfriends in Palm Desert, California. We met there from around Southern California to celebrate our longtime friendships but most of all, to celebrate our dear friend Shannon's 40th birthday.

This photo was taken in the California desert back in the 1970s. That is me on the right standing next to Shannon who I have ( clearly ) known most of my life! We share so many memories that our lives are woven together in the same tapestry and I can't imagine my life without her in it.

"Let there be no purpose in friendship
save the deepening of the spirit."
Kahlil Gibran

We are family. Most us have known each other since grade school ... before boys ... careers, husbands or kids. We have been there to celebrate when we're the best version of ourselves and be there when things get really tough. We love each other. We're lucky.

Flashback to 21 years ago in San Diego, California

Birthday Girl looking gorgeous at 40! Had fun drinking champagne and curling her hair, which doesn't happen often because she is pretty busy with her 7 year old twins!

Happy Birthday Shannon!

I am grateful for so many blessings in my life and along with my family, my friends have been my greatest gift. We aren't perfect but we love each other and share our lives and our humor and our talents and gifts with each other. Each one of us contributes something special ... something amazing.

Take a moment ...to call your friends, send a card ... an email ... something ... and let them know you love them.

Blessings and light to you,
my blogging friends,
for a beautiful November beginning!

Okay. Never have seen that photo of you and Shannon in the desert! Where did you find it????? Love the contrast of the group now and 21 years ago. Y'all are more beautiful now! ....of course the 80's were hard on everyone : )

Yes Theresa ... I feel very lucky!

Thanks Joyce and yeah, we definitely make a huge effort to get together. Sometimes it works out better than others of course!

PK- you haven't seen it? It's very tiny and in color but I changed it for the post. Don't you love the joshua trees? I know, the hair in the 80s wasn't great ... nor the make-up ... the clothes ... we finally learned to go with what is flattering rather than the trends!

How precious to have such long standing friendships, folk who have known you through thick & thin. I read not so long ago that as life goes through its fazes, our friendships change as do the meaning of those friendships, the older we get the more precious they become. It looks as though a fab time was had by all x beautiful photos x

You all look like sisters! It truely is a gift to have friends in your life like this. I don't have a lot of close friends, but those I have are near and dear to me...quality not quantity. Love the quotes as well.

What a lovely post about such lovely and important things. True, real friendship.
I have one. One special friend in Portland, OR. We're so in tune we can communicate above and under water through whale song. (did I forget to mention intuitively?)
At the moment we're working on the ancient art of teleportation.

Oh friends...

Thank you for the beautiful comments ... and you are right ladies, it's definitely about quality not quantity and they do become more precious as we get older!
