Bread and Tulips

Whatever you can do, or dream you can,
Begin it.

Boldness has genius,
power and magic in it.

Begin it now.

~Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

Hello my friends! If you are looking for a sweet summer movie rental that happens to take place in Venice, Italy, I thought Bread and Tulips was a lovely little film. It reminded me quite a lot of Shirley Valentine from 1989, which I liked as well ... but the Italian version! (Which, of course, I love!) The lead actress, Licia Maglietta, is so likable you can't help but root for her.

Please keep in mind the movie is better than the trailer!

Oh, and if you have any other suggestions for Italian comedies, I would love to hear them!

Hope you are all having a lovely week!

I loved Bread and Tulips, and yes to your comment about Shirley Valentine. Another huge favourite of mine. Lovely to find someone else out there who knows of these two.

This is the first I've heard of it... I'll have to put it on my list. Wish you could be here with us.... But you'll have to come next weekend to see the lawn!

I never even heard of this movie before, but I didn't come to comment on that anyway. I just wanted to say I LOVE your tulip! :-]

One of my favorite movies. I love Bruno Ganz as Fernando Girasole (he is, among many other engagements, a much beloved actor of the National Theater, the Burgtheater, of Vienna).

Sounds like a good movie...I loved Shirley Valentine. I saw a stage version of it as a one woman show and it was fantastic! One of my favorite movies, although not set in Italy but full of Italians and great food is Big Night. The soundtrack is FANTASTICO!
As far as the sauce for the beets...simply steam peeled, sliced beets until fork tender then strain and add about even amounts of balsamic and brown sugar and a pinch of salt. I kind of eyeballed it. Let simmer on low for a few more minutes and YUM!

Bread and Tulips sounds interesting. Hope it's not too much of a chick-flick. Although I think that the location will convince my husband to watch it.
